In 1988 I obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Studio Arts: Painting, Drawing and Illustration from the Ohio University.
I continue studying art and learning new processes and techniques. I am drawn to crafts, so things like cutting my own linoleum block and collage work really appeal to me. Currently, I am using acrylics and oil, but oil is really my favorite media.
After graduating, I took 8 years off from creating to learn about nature and wildlife, working as wildlife technician at a local Nature Center in the Atlanta area. I volunteered at a banding station on Jekyll Island as well.
In 1997 my husband and I moved to Bisbee, Arizona. We worked for a bird observatory, me assisting with the banding stations, and he as a bird guide. After a couple of years I had my own master bander’s permit and became a station manager, and ran my own banding projects. Meanwhile, my creative efforts went into owning a small artist consignment shop in downtown Bisbee, Arizona called Sunny Days. In 2002 I realized that all I wanted to do was paint and found it difficult to do so while running a store and banding. I sold the shop and moved onto just the bird banding and creating.
By 2006 my art could be seen in the form of note cards, magnets and t-shirts all over the region and into California. I had created artwork for many t-shirt projects; Sea & Sage Audubon, Mono Lake Committee, and for the Southwest Wings Birding Festival 3 years in a row. After an employee from USFWS saw my design on a hat, he hired me to create four posters representing the threatened species of 4 different military installations, 2 in NM and 2 in AZ.
After having finished that project I am ready now to move on to the next chapter in North Carolina. I will continue to create birds, mammals, all critters and nature. I would also like to branch out and depict fantasy art, goddesses, fairies, etc.
Currently, I am living in Swannanoa, NC just outside of Asheville with my husband. We are really enjoying the weather and the area. Soon, I will be painting in the yurt we recently obtained...
